Description
Corinth is a city that is very close to Athens and is easily accessible. Characteristic of this part is the Isthmus that joins the Aegean and the Ionian seas. Arriving in Corinth we make a stop at the canal to admire the beauty of the landscape. Then we board the vehicle again to Ancient Corinth, an all-powerful ancient city and naval power with two ports. This is also where the Apostle Paul preached Christianity and founded one of the first Christian communities in the Roman Empire.
There we visit the Temple of Apollo with its monolithic Doric columns and the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth where we learn its history through the rare collections it exhibits, which include many mosaics, marble statues, inscriptions. In addition, the guide gives us information about the fountain of Pirina, the Agora, the Theater and the Roman Conservatory that we are facing.
The next place we will visit is Acrocorinth, a steep rock that is located on the Corinthian plain and covered the fortified acropolis of ancient and medieval Corinth. The view from there makes you understand the strategic importance of this place.
After this journey through the history of Ancient Corinth we make a stop for food enjoying the traditional Greek flavors and happily completing our one day excursion. Finally, we return to Athens.
