Description
Our tour begins with our transfer from the center of Athens by road to the isthmus of Corinth. There we have the opportunity to take several photos, as we proceed along the bridge of the isthmus that joins the Saronic with the Corinthian Gulf. After that, we board our vehicle that will take us to Mycenae, the leading city of the Greeks against Troy, as mentioned in Homer’s Iliad.
After Mycenae we head to Nafplio, contemporary capital of the prefecture of Argolis.
Nafplion is one of the destinations that Athenians prefer for their short getaways, as it combines seaside holidays with the beauty and convenience of a developed town. The place is famous for “Bourtzi“, a small island-castle in the port of Nafplion that was an old Venetian fortress and is now a famous attraction that can be accessed with a boat by sea.
Palamidi can be seen from everywhere in Nafplion, and is a Venetian-era fortress located on a 216-meter hill. It can be accessed either on foot by climbing its steps or by road up to a point. Our walk in Nafplio concludes with our tour of its beautiful city where one meets many small picturesque shops, cobbled streets and alleys that make you want to visit this place again and again.
On the way back, we make a stop at the ancient theater of Epidaurus, outstanding for its beauty and symmetry. With a maximum capacity of 13,000 – 14,000 spectators, the theater hosted the musical, odic and dramatic contests included in the worship of the god Asclepius. Now this historic theater of Epidaurus is a pole of attraction for both Greeks and visitors to the country and is used for the presentation of ancient drama performances. Our one-day excursion ends with the return to Athens.
