Description

A visitor to Mykonos cannot overlook a trip to nearby Delos. Starting from the port of Mykonos, we set off for a unique travel experience.

Arriving in Delos, we head towards the archaeological site of the island. The place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most important point of this beautiful Aegean island. As we tour the archaeological site, we learn its history that begins in the archaic years. The ancient Greeks believed that Delos was a holy place because, according to mythology, Apollo and Artemis were born there. They even believed that no mortal could be born or die on that island, so they sent all the women who were about to give birth or die to the neighboring island of Rhenia.

Our tour of the island continues at the archaeological museum of Delos, where we come across a building of historical importance with nine rooms, each of which exhibits the permanent collection of the site. Our guide explains the significance and origin of the sculptures, vases, statues and figurines dating between the 7th and 1st century BC.

Completing our excursion to Delos, we return again to the island of Mykonos, enjoying our afternoon walk in its narrow, picturesque streets. At the end of the day, we sit down to eat in a traditional Greek tavern of the island and discuss our overall experience over a drink.
