Description
Starting from the cosmopolitan port of Mykonos, we head by ship to nearby Delos where we will learn about the history and importance of this special Aegean island and explore the reasons why it is worth visiting.
The trip to Delos is short, as the distance between the two islands is only 1.5 nautical miles. Upon our arrival on the island we visit the archaeological site of Delos with remains of important world cultural heritage for which we learn their history through the narrations of our tour guide. Delos is a religious and historical center and is a magnet for many visitors to Greece, who wish to combine their holidays in Mykonos with a one-day getaway to the quiet and beautiful island of Delos.
The importance of the place starts from the archaic years. The ancient Greeks believed that Delos was a holy place because, according to mythology, Apollo and Artemis were born there. They even believed that no mortal could be born or die on that island, so they sent all the women who were about to give birth or die to the neighboring island of Rhenia.
Our next stop is the archaeological museum of the island, where rare exhibits between the years 7th and 1st BC are housed. There we have the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of the vases, statues and mosaics.
Feeling “full” by our acquired historical knowledge, we conclude our escape to Delos and return to the port of Mykonos.
