Santorini or “Thira” is undoubtedly the most popular and photographed island in Greece. Every year the island receives thousands of visitors from all over the world who come to admire the uniqueness of the place. The volcanic landscape combined with the picturesque churches and the Cycladic architecture result in a magical spectacle.
Our tour starts from Oia, one of the most important settlements of Santorini. Oia is built on the cliffs that are formed on the island and offers a panorama of the seascape together with the white houses and traditional churches. There we will learn about the history of the area, as well as tour its narrow streets and take pictures. Our next stop is the monastery of Prophet Ilias, which is located at a distance of 3 km from the Tower of Santorini. The monastery stands prominently on the rocks of the island and at an altitude of 567 meters.
Afterward we head to Megalochori, a settlement that is famous for its special morphology, since it looks like a labyrinth of winding streets. Taking a walk in the area, we learn about the history of the place, its customs and traditions. Next is the exploration of the Red Beach, which is probably the most famous of Santorini. The reason it is so famous is the red sand of the beach, which owes its color to the island’s active volcano. The beach is surrounded by a series of lava monoliths, which makes it one of the most impressive beaches in the world.
Our final stop is another beach of Santorini, which is located in the village of Perissa at a distance of 13 km from Fira. This is called the Black Beach, which is equally famous because of the color of the sand, which is black. This large beach is organized, while also having traditional taverns where we will enjoy a delicious meal while discussing our experiences and impressions in this fascinating place.
