Description
Arriving by road from the center of Athens to the Athenian Riviera, the southern coast of Attica, we can admire the beauty of the coastal landscape combined with the urban side of the city. Crossing the southern suburbs of Athens, such as Faliro, Flisvos, Glyfada, we move along the coastal avenue that leads to Sounio.
Sounio is an important point of interest that is inextricably linked to the ancient times and Greek mythology. There we find the Temple of Poseidon, which was made of marble during the time of Pericles in 444 BC. The temple looks incomplete as a large part of it could not be saved, leaving behind ruins. As its name suggests, it is dedicated to Poseidon, god of the sea. Both the architecture and the general characteristics of the temple are worthy of admiration, since it itself is considered a rare design. Its position above the sea used to be a sign for sailors that they were reaching Piraeus.
The tour of this temple, carried out by our expert guide, along with the amazing view of the Saronic Gulf make the experience quite unique. As this place is surrounded by beaches, we are able to explore and admire them by walking in their clear waters. Sounio is the ideal Athenian destination to see the sunset, which is a wonderful way to end this amazing day!
